All it would have taken was a moment of lapsed attention to miss the rise of UK outfit The 1975. In a short period of time, the 4-piece has gone from writing and recording in a bedroom to performing on some of the biggest stages the international scene has on offer. Now, as the release of their debut album draws closer, frontman Matt Healy caught up with the Music Feeds team to talk shop.

Speaking from an unknown location in Tokyo, Japan, Matt explained that he’s laying low, having just been accosted by a mob of 500 or so screaming Japanese fans. Describing it as one of the greatest experiences of his life, Matt added that the reception was a total show. The whole ride so far has been by the sounds of things, with the band skyrocketing to world recognition before even releasing an LP.

Matt let us behind the scenes of the band’s creative process and what they found themselves drawing on to create their self-titled debut, as they were coming off the back of a series of successful EPs.

The band will be making their maiden voyage to Australia in early 2014 as part of the Big Day Out and we got some of their thoughts on what they’re expecting and if they’re as keen for it as their Aussie fans. Hint: They are.
