My Disco Announce New Album, Free Download of lead single Turn

Written by Michael Carr on September 7, 2010

Melbourne-based minimalist proto punk pioneers My Disco have announced that their follow up to the masterful Paradise, Little Joy will be released on October 15.

With Paradise marking their move into more barren and minimalistic territory compared to their earlier work, from what I can tell by listening to the single, Little Joy might see the guys somewhat softening things a little. It’s still very much repetitive and hypnotic and rife with brash sounds, but it seems somehow less in your face. This probably has something to do with the fact that Steve Albini wasn’t involved, I’d imagine, as the best way I could describe the difference between this and songs off Paradise would be to call it ‘less Shellacy.’

Incidentally, if you don’t know who Steve Albini or Shellac are look them up; your life will change forever.

Download the single here via Radiant on FBi; grab their RSS while you’re there as it is well worth your while
