Neutral Milk Hotel To Play Headline Shows If Harvest 2013 Cancelled

UPDATE: Harvest Festival 2013 has been officially cancelled. More details here.

With Harvest Festival 2013 on the brink of being cancelled, promoter AJ Maddah has confirmed that reformed indie legends Neutral Milk Hotel will indeed be doing a headlining tour of Australia if the event folds, reassuring fans of the legendary folk experimentalists.

A fan tweeted Maddah yesterday asking for more info on the fate of the boutique festival and whether or not they should buy tickets to Neutral Milk Hotel’s New Zealand sideshows. The promoter replied with “If it does cancel they’ll be doing headline shows in Aus.”

He’s already all but confirmed that Franz Ferdinand, Goldfrapp and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will do headline tours under his Harvest Presents banner, with Mutemath and Primus to potentially be added to the Soundwave bill. Alternate arrangements for Australian appearances by Massive Attack and Volcano Choir are reportedly in negotiation.

UPDATE: Neutral Milk Hotel, M. Ward & Superchunk co-headline bill announced! More details here.

Neutral Milk Hotel recently reformed to play their first shows in 15 years. The reinstated lineup is that of their most celebrated album, 1998′s In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, which was released the year before they parted ways.

UPDATE 29/09/13: After Harvest announced headlining tours for Franz Ferdinand and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club on Thursday, it now looks like NMH will be the next band to have their Australian appearances rescheduled. AJ Maddah has tweeted that he hopes Monday, 30th September will be the day to make the announcement.
