New Soundgarden Album Set For October Release

Grunge legends Soundgarden are very close to releasing their new album, and according to frontman Chris Cornell, it could come as soon as October. The album has been in the works for more than a year now, and fans have waited for over 15 years for this album, their last one Down on the Upside being released in 1996.

Cornell recently spoke to RollingStone about where it was up to, saying: “It’s done”, and when it will be released: “It’ll be out in probably October…I would say , I’m just guessing October. We’re pretty much done with everything”.

Recently the group released a new track for the Avengers movie, but Cornell doesn’t want us to think that this will reflect the sound of the new album: “Soundgarden does a lot of time signature changes and shifts and things like that. It felt like this should be a little more straightforward ’cause it’s for a broad audience”, he explains. “The idea of having it be intelligent lyrically and melodic and all these things – it’s a task to do all that stuff. Once I got started I wanted it to be right.”

The band recently toured here on the Big Day Out 2012 lineup, but Cornell has promised to come back here for a proper tour later on this year.
