Newtown Festival 2015 Date And Theme Announced

Sydney’s beloved Newtown Festival has announced its return for 2015. The annual Newtown Neighbourhood Centre fundraiser is set to take place this November and has been deemed a celebration of ‘Newtopia’.

The 2015 instalment of the Newtown Festival will take place on Sunday 8th November at Camperdown Memorial Rest Park. The theme of ‘Newtopia’ – which follows on from 2014’s ‘Newtown Republic’ – aims to highlight some of the suburb’s most vibrant local businesses, artists and organisations.

You’ll find mostly local brews in the festival bars, the ‘Newtown Locals’ food-fusion zone will return, and organisers have promised a music lineup featuring exciting up-and-coming local performers, artists and creatives.

Highlights of the 2014 bill included Deep Sea Arcade, Straight Arrows, Sleepmakeswaves, Bloods, Astronomy Class, and more. The 2015 live music lineup is expected to be announced in mid-September, with artist applications opening mid-next month until the end of July. See the festival’s website for application details.

This year a special spot on the Newtown Festival lineup will be set aside for the winner of

the Sydneyvision Song Contest, which also carries a respectable $500 prize. Check out the Sydneyvision website for more details.

The Newtown Festival is presented annually by the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, in an effort to raise funds to support its work with the local community. While the festival is free, funds raised via donations go directly towards programs at the centre.
