Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds Allow Music To Be Used In New $6 Million SA Tourism Campaign

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds have given permission for their music to be used in a new $6 million campaign to promote tourism in South Australia’s Barossa Valley. A new commercial in the campaign features the 1994 Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds’ single Red Right Hand.

The ad will play on commercial television from Sunday, 2nd June but has already been uploaded to YouTube by South Australian Travel. The tourism commercial, though disarming at first, closes by weaving in some imagery that suits the brooding intensity of Cave’s vocals.

The new campaign carries the tag line “Barossa. Be consumed” and as Chris Pfeiffer, chairman of Tourism Barossa, recently explained speaks to a new generation:

“The Barossa…does have a new image. There’s new generations coming through and they’re picking up a completely different image.”

This isn’t the first time South Australia has secured a credible and prominent musician for a tourism ad. If you watch free-to-air tv you’ll see a commercial for Kangaroo Island with music by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder.
