Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Officially Announce New Album ‘Skeleton Tree’ And Accompanying Film

It’s official! Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have announced the details of their 16th studio album.

Here’s the artwork to prove it:

The follow-up to 2013’s acclaimed Push The Sky Away is dubbed Skeleton Tree and will be released on Friday, 9th September, on the heels of a companion film called One More Time with Feeling which is set to premiere in cinemas the night before.

Aussie fans will be stoked to learn that there are craploads of theatres Down Under that will be screening the flick (list below), which has been described as an “immersive but also elegant performance film” and features “black and white, colour and 3-D” footage to reflect the “intimacy and starkness” of the band’s mysterious new record.

The film, which will be the first place that anyone (including media, ho-hum) will be able to experience the new LP, will also reflect the tragic context surrounding its production.

Skeleton Tree was originally recorded at Brighton’s Retreat Studios in late 2014. However, following the tragic death of Cave’s 15-year-old son in July 2015, the Aussie icon traveled to France to finish the album at La Frette Studios.

Directed by Chopper‘s Andrew Dominik, One More Time with Feeling was initially conceived as a straight-up performance film, but according to a press release “evolved into something much more significant as Dominik delved into the tragic backdrop of the writing and recording of the album”.

And as well as footage of the Aussie alt-rock veterans performing Skeleton Tree material, the film will also feature interviews and “intermittent narration and improvised rumination” from Nick Cave himself, and promises “a true testament to an artist trying to find his way through the darkness”.

Check out the list of Aussie cinemas screening One More Time With Feeling below. All tickets are available via Nick Cave’s official website.
