Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ Baby Recreates Iconic Cover For Album’s 25th Anniversary

Nirvana‘s Nevermind is one of an elite few albums that truly changed the face of music forever. This year, the iconic disc turns 25, and so – too – does the naked swimming baby who featured on its cover.

Spencer Elden is now a tatted-up, bleach-haired surfer dude in his mid-twenties, and to help drive home the reality of just how much time has passed since Kurt & co unleashed their groundbreaking LP upon the world, he’s kindly volunteered to recreate Nevermind‘s legendary cover art for 2016.

Offering himself up as a human yardstick, Elden stripped off and dived into a lap pool – with pants this time, sorry pervs – although he apparently wanted to go au naturel.

“I said to the photographer, ‘Let’s do it naked.’ But he thought that would be weird, so I wore my swim shorts,” Elden, now an LA-based artist and tomato-grower, tells the New York Post.

“The anniversary means something to me. It’s strange that I did this for five minutes when I was four months old and it became this really iconic image,” he continues.

“It’s cool but weird to be part of something so important that I don’t even remember.”

According to Time Magazine, photographer Kirk Weddle paid Elden’s parents $200 in 1991 to use their newborn bub in a photoshoot for the then-unknown grungelords (the fish hook with the dollar bill was later added in digitally).

Earlier this month, another photographer named John Chapple paid Elden $200 to do it again #poetic

Nevermind – which celebrated its Silver Jubilee this Saturday – features Nirvana’s most iconic songs including Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come as You Are, and has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.

In honour of its anniversary, this pro’s insane 1998 ice-skating routine to Smells Like Teen Spirit has also gone viral.

Does anyone else reckon he looks like Jim from the US version of ‘The Office’?
