After teasing something big with a mysterious new video and chat bot earlier this month, Northlane have dropped a huge new single called ‘Citizen’, but not everyone’s super keen on the band’s new direction.
Recorded in New Jersey by David Bendeth (Bring Me The Horizon, A Day To Remember, Paramore), ‘Citizen’ sees the Sydney band move towards a cleaner sound, and fans of their earlier material aren’t too pleased…
…while others have a different opinion:
Speaking about the meaning behind the song, Northlane guitarist Josh Smith says, “‘Citizen’ is a song that was written about the First World police state and our willingness to live under the watch of those in power, for their means, while those who blow the lid on it suffer.
“Writing this one was quite a mission, we went through five completely different sets of lyrics and the final incarnation of the song was the eighth revision. It took a lot of work but we are proud of it and beyond excited to share it with you all.”
Decide for yourself about the song, below.
‘Citizen’ is the follow-up to Northlane’s previous single ‘Intuition’, which received its live debut at UNIFY Gathering 2017, and is the focus of the band’s upcoming national tour.
