Paramore aren’t holding back with the new tunes, today giving fans their funky new single ‘Told You So’ along with a pretty lighthearted music video.
Again incorporating elements of new wave like they did on previous single ‘Hard Times’, Paramore turn ‘Told You So’ into a bouncy funk-pop number that will have fans of their older material scratching their heads.
In the song’s video, directed by Aaron Joseph and drummer Zac Farro, the beret-wearing Paramore cruise around in a car as Taylor York plays riffs and Farro bravely plays some tambourine while driving. Watch the full thing, below.
In a recent interview with Beats 1, Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams said she struggled with the lyrics for ‘Told You So’.
“That was one of the first pieces of music that Taylor sent me,” she said.
“I had a little thumb-drive, and I would just drive around listening to it, and especially back and forth from Taylor’s house. And I would sing little rhythmic sings to myself – they didn’t make sense. There were no words.
“But this is another one that really intimidated me because I was like, ‘I have all these melody ideas because there’s no so much melody going on and so much rhythm going on. It’s so inspiring. But how am I going to fit what I feel into that?’ It took a minute.”
‘Told You So’ and ‘Hard Times’ will both appear on Paramore’s upcoming fifth studio album After Laughter, which is set for release on 12th May.
The band also recently admitted that they tried to “rip off” Tame Impala on their new record.
