Paul Kelly Album Withdrawn From Carlton Dry Music Award Noms

Paul Kelly’s The Merri Soul Sessions has been withdrawn from the list of Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards nominations, announced this morning, because the album will not be released in time to be a contender.

The Merri Soul Sessions was included in today’s list of nominations for Best Blues and Roots Album, alongside Dan Sultan‘s Blackbird, John Butler Trio‘s Flesh & Blood, Mia Dyson‘s Idyllwild and Little Bastard‘s self-titled debut.

As reported by Noise 11, The Merri Soul Sessions is due to be released in February 2015 and is therefore not eligible for an Independent Music Award nomination this year. The album is a collection of Kelly’s songs recorded live in the studio with assistance from guest singers.

The tracks What You Want, featuring Vika Bull, and Keep Coming Back For Me, featuring Clairy Browne, have already been released as a 7-inch double-A-side vinyl single. Kelly will release two more singles on vinyl over the next few months, featuring collaborations with Linda Bull, Dan Sultan and Kira Piru, before the album is released next year.

AIR have withdrawn The Merri Soul Sessions from the 2014 Blues and Roots Award category and have not replaced it with another album. The ninth annual Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards nominations were announced today, led by Brisbane rockers Violent Soho, Sia and Chet Faker. See the full list of nominations here.
