As the country gets in full summer festival spirit there’s no time like the present for the unveiling of the 2015 Perth International Arts Festival’s full program and its complete music lineup.
Held over 24 nights, the Perth festival music lineup boasts an eclectic selection of artists covering a variety of genres from pop to indie rock, trip hop to afro-soul. Leading the pack is acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O’Connor as well as singer, songwriter and composer Rufus Wainwright who will play a special showcase featuring his greatest hits.
Scottish post-rock mainstays Mogwai find themselves on the festival lineup in a double bill with Dinosaur Jr frontman J Mascis. Plus Tuareg guitarist and singer Bombino will bring the sound of the Sahara to Perth with his desert blues-rock jams.
Other features of the Perth Festival lineup include Royal de Luxe’s The Incredible and Phenomenal Journey of the Giants to the Streets of Perth, which will see Perth transformed into a modern fable, as 11-metre tall giants take inspiration from uniquely Western Australian stories and tour the city, commemorating the Anzac centenary.
The festival will also bring English National Opera’s production of Anthony Minghella’s award-winning Madama Butterfly to Perth for an Australian exclusive and an incredible team of Australian talent including Kate Miller-Heidke, will transform John Marsden and Shaun Tan’s compelling picture book, The Rabbits, into an opera making its world premiere.
The Perth International Arts Festival runs from 13th February – 7th March 2015. See some of the Perth Festival highlights below and head to the festival website for the full program.
