A 21-year-old women and her 16-year-old brother went through a terrifying kidnap ordeal after a day out at the Port Fairy Folk Festival.
At a remand hearing yesterday, police said the brother and sister were waiting at the Caledonian Hotel (pictured below) when a man claiming to be a security guard pulled up and spoke with the siblings. According to The Standard, he said he was driving around making sure young people got home safely.
It is alleged that the siblings then jumped in the car with the fake security guard and a short time later he stopped on the highway. He asked the brother to get three Jim Beam bourbon cans out of the boot before speeding off and leaving the boy on the road, saying to the girl ‘I’m taking you’.
The girl then jumped from the moving car and escaped into the paddocks, suffering severe grazing and bruising .
Police have arrested a 41-year-old man who has been remanded in custody and charged with kidnapping.
