On paper, Sydney four-piece Professor just shouldn’t work. In practice however, it’s a wonder why they didn’t happen sooner. Earlier today this unique group unveiled their brand new single Hornets, with plans to officially launch the track with a gig in their hometown this week.
Fronted by a classically trained opera singer who met a jazz drummer by chance, Professor’s influences span a broad spectrum. While this might be doing in the heads of music journalists the country over, it’s going wonders for the band who have shape shifted their way through support slots for many local favourites, including Ball Park Music.
Hornets, which readers can stream for themselves below, is a burning example of the eclectic layers contained within the band. 20 seconds in and already the song is taking on a new form, at the halfway mark, the lofty atmosphere parts to make room for groovy drums and sly guitar work, which set the scene for the majesty to come.
To celebrate the release of Hornets, Professor have gotten together a few mates, including SHE REX, Twin Lakes, and Service Bells, for an official single launch. The event will take place at The Standard in Sydney this Thursday, 5th September, with tickets available for purchase at the door.
