More shocking news from overseas festivals: a stage has collapsed at the Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium and at least 3 people have been killed and over 70 have been injured. This news comes just days after the shocking stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair where the death toll was five.
It was the opening day of the Pukkelpop Festival in Hasselt, which is 50 miles east of Brussels. The festival is one of the biggest alternative rock festivals in Europe. A huge storm hit the festival grounds with hailstones and massive winds before the stage collapsed.
The festival has now been called off and the festival organiser said: We have for now put the festival on hold until we understand the situation completely.
Bands that were booked to play on the line-up have reacted to the tragedy via Twitter.
Foo Fighters who were booked to headline the festival tweeted: Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the tragic events at Pukkelpop.
Katy B Tweeted: Cant believe the storm at Pukkelpop festival so sad that people have passed away love goes to those that are injured too.
Fleet Foxes Tweeted: We are all safe at Pukkelpop. Crazy storm. This is awful. Hearts go out to all.
It seems that the structures of these festival stages really need to be looked into. Over the past month a number of stage collapses have occurred and it always seems to be caused by massive storms. It’s only a matter of time before we see a band killed while playing on stage.
