Record Roundup: SBTRKT, Perfect Pussy, Wagons

Today’s Record Roundup presents three acts that, while they sit on disparate ends of the genre map, have each developed reputations as skilled songwriters and steadfastly uncompromising artists: electronic star SBTRKT, New York noisemakers Perfect Pussy, and our own Wagons.

SBTRKT – Transitions

TRANSITIONS_I

With the release of his 2011 debut full-length effort, SBTRKT has cemented a reputation as one of the most consistently gripping and praiseworthy electronic artists and performers working today. From humble beginnings as a hot up-and-comer, SBTRKT is now a globally-recognised force in the world of EDM.

His latest project is Transitions, a collection of six instrumental tracks written and produced over the past year, with each referencing the creative process that culminated in his debut album and introduced the world to the tribal mask. Hear them all at the Transitions website.

Perfect Pussy – Say Yes To Love

An alliance of punk, noise, and hardcore notables from the Syracuse, New York scene, Perfect Pussy first turned heads and cranked necks with their self-released four song cassette-only EP, and are presently sitting in the eye of a whirlwind of hype not seen in years.

The band are about to deliver on that hype, announcing that they will unveil their anticipated debut album, Say Yes To Love, on Friday, 18th April. Readers can check out Driver, the sublime and deliciously noisy first taste of the LP below.

The man Henry Wagons has taken to Facebook to announce that Friday, 16th May will see the release of Wagons’ new album, Acid Rain and Sugar Cane, the band’s first full-length effort since 2011’s Rumble, Shake and Tumble, and this time he’s teamed up with Mr Mick Harvey.

“Harvey plays with the band on every track, with each song’s bones coming together live, in its own time, all in the one room, in the midst of fine drink and wild tales at my wood-lined and furry studio atop Mount Martha on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula,” writes Wagons.
