Revived Maitreya Festival Confirms 2017 Dates

Victoria’s Maitreya Festival has confirmed that it will return in 2017, with festival organisers confirming the dates for next year’s edition, which is set to take place in Byron Bay, New South Wales.

Organisers are going ahead with the 2017 event, despite still owing thousands of dollars to ticketing companies after the ill-fated 2016 Maitreya Festival was cancelled, with ticketing company TryBooking left more $400,000 out of pocket.

Details for the 2017 event are scarce, but according to a post on Maitreya’s Facebook page, next year’s event will be held “near Byron Bay” from the 10th to the 13th of March, though no specific site for the festival has been confirmed.

In the post, organisers have also said that anyone who was unable to obtain refunds from the 2016 event will be permitted to enter 2017’s Maitreya Festival for free.

“We can’t wait to share with you what we weren’t able to in 2016, and it’s going to be incredible,” reads the Facebook post.

“Our space boogie starship is headed at light speed to the party now! You are advised to get you dancing shoes, sexy fashion, funky hats, glitter, & once again take up your dance positions!”

This year’s Maitreya Festival was denied a permit by council to host the event, and after trying to move to a new venue the event was completely cancelled after police warned ticket-holders not to attend.
