Ricky Gervais Finally Hits The Studio With ‘Slough’

Ricky Gervais has unveiled a demo recording of Slough, an ode to the famous UK town in which his hit BBC series The Office was set. The track comes in the lead up to the official return of David Brent, Gervais’ famous boss character on the show, in the upcoming mockumentary film Life on the Road.

Don’t believe what the critics say / That’s it’s soulless and it’s boring and grey / See for yourself, what are you waiting for“, sings Gervais, in character as Brent, on his latest composition, which pays tribute to his the character’s beloved hometown. He croons, “And you know just where you’re heading / It’s equidistant ‘tween London and Reading. Oh Slough, my kind of town / I don’t know how anyone can put you down“.

One of the most well-known and hilarious subplots from the British version of The Office was David Brent’s obsession with attaining musical stardom, which culminated in a famous scene from the first season wherein Brent played his signature tune, Free Love Freeway, for the whole office staff.

According to The A.V. Club, Life on the Road is set to begin filming in 2015 and will focus on the Brent character embarking on a tour of the UK to “reignite” his musical career. Readers can check out Slough, which originally appeared on episode one of Learn Guitar with David Brent, below.
