RIP Type O Negative’s Pete Steele – 1962-2010

In a statement released through the bands website, Frontman and bassist for heavy-goth rockers Type O Negative has passed away.

Pete Steele is believed to have died from heart failure sometime on Wednesday 14th April.

The band release 7 studio albums including critically acclaimed Bloody Kisses and October Rust. Pete’s songs captured both a strong male and female fan base writing about love, depression and death. Their sound captured the brutality of 90’s heavy metal scene mixed with goth punk roots and brooding simplicity.

Pete Steele, famous for his buff physique, even appeared nude in Playgirl magazine in 1995. Pete had also composed soundtracks to “Freddy vs Jason” and “Mortal Combat” and tried his hand at acting on the TV series “Oz”.

The recently sober Pete Steele had reportedly begun writing for the follow up to Type O Negative’s 2007 album Dead Again.

Condolences go out to Pete’s family, band mates and Type O Negative fans.
