Serj Tankian Solo Album Release Date Announced

Fresh from headlining Soundwave last month with his band System of a Down – Serj Tankian is set to release his new solo album Harakiri on July 10.

Harakiri, a Japanese word meaning ‘ritual suicide’, is the third solo album from the SOAD frontman – following 2007’s Elect the Dead and 2010’s Imperfect Harmonies.

Serj self-produced the album at his home studio in Los Angeles and told Blabbermouth that he used an iPad to write and record various songs on the record.

“I used the Apple iPad as a songwriting instrument to sketch out three of the songs on the record,” he said.

“We must trick ourselves into writing in different ways to get unexpected results.”

The album will also feature performances by Serj’s touring band – The F.C.C. – which features Dan Monti on guitar, Mario Pagliarulo on bass and Troy Zeigler on drums.

Serj will put a teaser video with a snippet of first single Figure It Out on his website next week. You can read a full statement on the album and each of the songs here.
