Soundwave Melbourne Transport Thrown Into Chaos

If you’re heading to Soundwave in Melbourne next weekend, now is the time to start making plans. The festival has announced that there will be no public transport, including trams, trains and buses, to the festival, on either the Saturday or Sunday of the event.

Organisers published a statement earlier today confirming that Public Transport Victoria had made the decision not to run public transport to the festival’s Melbourne Showgrounds venue next week.

“Due to other citywide commitments, Public Transport Victoria has advised that no public transport will be made available for the 2015 Soundwave Event,” the statement reads. “This includes all train, tram and bus services to and from the venue.”

The festival has also advised that alternate transport options will be limited. Soundwave will run a return bus shuttle service to and from Footscray and North Melbourne stations though tickets must be pre-booked.

According to organisers, “If either station is deemed to be at full capacity after the show, the Soundwave Shuttles may be diverted to the alternate station without warning.”

There are further car travel options available, though, as the festival notes, “It is anticipated that a higher number of attendees will drive to the event in 2015.”

The festival has made parking options available exclusively to vehicles car-pooling with four or more occupants. Tickets for these options must be pre-booked.

Further details, including options for people with accessible parking permits and drop-off/pick-up points, are available on the Soundwave Festival website.

The festival warns that the outlined methods “are the ONLY parking options available to Soundwave patrons. Parking illegally in surrounding streets / suburbs will incur heavy fines! Council officers will be patrolling and issuing parking infringement notices”.

And for those not attending the festival? “With the increased number of shuttle busses and event vehicles on the road, we are advising all to expect delays and to avoid the area completely where possible.”

Soundwave Festival takes place over two days in 2015, Saturday, 21st February and Sunday, 22nd February. The festival recently changed venues from Flemington Racecourse to the nearby Showgrounds.

Melbourne’s all-night White Night festival takes place on the night of Saturday, 21st February.
