Soz But That Powderfinger Reunion At Splendour Was “Absolutely A One-Off”

Sorry Powderfinger fans, but the group’s former frontman, Bernard Fanning, has ruled out any chance of the band’s appearance at Splendour In the Grass becoming anything bigger.

Four fifths of the Powderfinger lineup — sans their drummer Jon Coghill, who was “surprised” to find out about the performance — reunited to play two of their hits at the Byron Bay festival on Saturday night, 10 years since their previous Splendour appearance.

In an interview with HuffPost Australia following Powderfinger’s surprise set, Fanning said that while he enjoyed performing with his former bandmates, the Splendour surprise was “absolutely a one-off”.

“There’s no plans or ideas for a reunion or a tour or anything like that,” Fanning said. “It’s just something that may happen from time to time, whenever we’re all in the same place at the same time.

“I think people want that to be the case — they want there to be a reunion and they want there to be a tour, but we don’t want that. None of us want that.

“The only circumstances under which that would happen would be if we really wanted to do it. It’s just not on the books for us.”

Fanning and the other Fingers reportedly only came up with the idea to perform at Splendour on Friday, only a day before Fanning’s solo set at the festival.

The same four fifths of Powderfinger actually reunited to perform together in Brisbane in 2015, although they didn’t play any Powderfinger material at the time.
