Spotify Seal Deal To Begin Hosting DJ Mixes

Your Spotify playlists are about to get a whole lot fatter.

Following on from the announcement that Apple Music is keen to start streaming and licensing DJ mixes, Spotify has decided to get in on the action.

It’s all thanks to digital distributor Dubset, who’ve struck a deal with the international streaming behemoth to allow producers to have their mixes and radio sets legally hosted on the platform.

Using Dubset’s nifty new MixBANK technology, which identifies music within a DJ mix, Spotify will now be able to ID and pay rights holders (although probably not much, amirite?)

Although Dubset already has similar agreements in place with other streaming services, Spotify’s share of the market is set to make this latest deal a huge new revenue stream for artists and publishers.

“This is a major milestone for DJs and music fans all over the world,” said Dubset CEO Stephen White in a statement. “Our technology platform makes it possible for us to identify and pay rights holders in DJ mixes, making this enormously popular music genre available on the world’s most popular streaming service for the very first time.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the team at Spotify to deliver this content to music fans all over the world.”

In other Spotify-related news, the streaming giant has also just moved to boost its advertising revenue by allowing big-name brands to sponsor its most popular playlists.

While a new Twitter rejig means you can now share and play Spotify tracks directly from your timeline, courtesy of new 30-second “audio cards” that let you preview song clips without actually having to open Spotify itself.

What a time to be alive.
