Sugar Army Last Shows For 2009!

Written by Toby Smith on October 20, 2009

It’s been a huge year for Perth super troopers SUGAR ARMY with the release of their critically acclaimed debut album and equally lauded live shows. Now the Australian rock champs have locked in their final shows for 2009.

Sugar Army are set to headline The Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne on Thursday 3 December before they head to Sydney for the sold out Homebake festival on Saturday 5 December. Sugar Army will then tear up the mainstage at the Pyramid Rock Festival on Wednesday 30 December before bringing in the New Year with one last headlining show in hometown Perth at the Rosemount Hotel on New Year’s Eve Thursday 31 December with support from local friends Capital City, Umpire, The Scotch Of Saint James, The Preytells, Grim Fandango, Emperors plus DJs Shannon Fox and Sock Mobster. The band will also kick off 2010 in fine form at the mighty Southbound Festival in WA on Sunday 10th January.

2009 has been a great year for Sugar Army. The band’s daring debut LP The Parallels Amongst Ourselves debuted at #2 on the AIR Indie Album Charts, and #87 nationally and #39 in WA on the ARIA Album Charts. It also earned love as Album of the Week on RTR FM and SYN FM.

The first single from the album ‘Acute’ has just won WAM Song Of The Year in the rock category, while second single ‘Tongues In Cheeks’ saw drummer James Sher make his video directing debut and was featured as Channel [V]’s Ripe Clip the week of its release, and last but not least, third single ‘No Need For Lovers’ was the #1 most played song on triple j for the month of September.

To top it off Sugar Army were nominated for Qantas’ prestigious Spirit Of Youth Awards (SOYA) 2009 in the Music Category. If you think their achievements are impressive, wait ‘til you witness the band live. See Sugar Army obliterate the stage in your town!
