Sun Araw / Prince Rama Australian Tour January 2012

Written by Michael Carr on December 6, 2011

Psychedelic brothers in arms Sun Araw and Prince Rama have just announced a co-headline Australian tour off the back of their appearance on the Sugar Mountain Festival 2011 line-up early next year. Following on from their fifth studio album Ancient Romans, this tour will mark the return of Sun Araw who came and wowed audiences here back in 2010, that tour including a particularly memorable show at GoodGod Small Club in Sydney where the indomitable Donny Benet made his Sydney debut. The band, known for their incredibly live shows and bizarre sonic and palette, will be sure to be a highlight for any fans of freaked-out jams and mind-squelching psychedelia. Here’s a taste.

Prince Rama are fitting tour partners then, the trio who moved to art school in Boston from the Hare Krisna Colony in Florida where they were raised to make music, having also built a strong reputation for their incantatory and often ritualistic live shows. Having had work released on Animal Collective’s Paw Tracks record label, the band also handpicking Prince Rama to play the ATP Festival they curated in May, this trio is sure to find a place in the ever-growing pantheon of experimental artists. Taste away.

GoodGod Small Club, Sydney
Wednesday 25th January
Tickets: $20

Sun Araw / Prince Rama will also appear on the Sugar Mountain Festival 2012 line-up.
