Sydney Opera House Announces 40th Anniversary Concert

It’s hard to believe that Sydney Opera House is only 40 years young but that’s the milestone the iconic venue is about to celebrate, with the quintessential venue putting together an incredible lineup of Aussie talent to mark the occasion.

The Sydney Opera House 40th anniversary concert will see Deborah Mailman, Baz Luhrmann, Sarah Blasko, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, John Butler, Megan Washington, Paul Grabowsky and members of the Wharf Revue take to the famous stage, amongst many others. The festivities take place on Sunday, 27th October at twilight on the Opera House Forecourt, which will be back in business after three years of upgrades.

The evening will finish with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the piece that opened the Opera House in 1973, and is just the beginning of a series of happenings that will carry on through to December, including film screenings, opera, architecture and design events, as well as an appropriately sized birthday cake.

Blues and roots champion John Butler has praised the event, calling the Opera House the Uluru of music venues. “Sydney Opera House is such an iconic cultural venue. Every time I go there I am awestruck by its confident design, massive history and sublime setting.”

Tickets start from $39 and are on sale now.
