Sydney’s Independent Music Scene Helps Get Youth Of The Streets

On Thursday 10th December, Ghoul. Parades, The Winter People, Lions At Your Door and Bird Auotmatic will be taking over the Annandale Hotel for Off The Street, a night held in support of Youth Off The Streets. Doors open 7PM.

The brain child of Julia Campbell, Off The Street was developed by a group of university students and young people who are fed up with the suffering of the live music scene in Sydney due to hard times hitting bands and venues alike.

“We all love a great night hearing our favourite bands, but this is getting harder and harder to come by. We want to turn that around, and thought, well here’s an opportunity to do what we love while making a difference to the lives of others. We’re hoping to help turn the lives of homeless young people around by donating the proceeds of all ticket sales to Youth Off The Streets.”

Youth Off The Streets are thrilled to be the charity beneficiary of the event, with CEO and Founder, Father Chris Riley commenting:

“Young people have a resilience, energy and creativity that can help them achieve anything they set their mind to. When young people like Julia and her friends put their talents and energy towards providing a positive experience for youth that will also have a positive effect on the lives of others, we really need to get behind them and support them in their venture. I am sure this night will be high on energy and vibrance and thank all the bands and supporters for choosing to help Youth Off The Streets.”

The day will bring together a strong line up including: indie dance floor slayers Lions At Your Door, young art rock band and Triple J Unearthed Big Sound ’09 winners Parades, Indie Pop-rock group Bird Automatic, experimental quartet Ghoul and last but not least, Jager Uprising ’08 winners The Winter People.

To maximise the funds raised for Youth Off The Streets, Julia and her fellow organisers have held a series of fund-raisers throughout the year in order to ensure that all proceeds from ticket sales will be directed to the charity.
