Tame Impala Accused Of Stealing Uncleared Sample For ‘Eventually’

Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker has been accused of sampling the drums of Skull Snaps’ It’s A New Day on Currents’ highlight Eventually without asking for clearance.

Skull Snaps’ lead-singer Samm Culley contacted Parker directly to make the accusation, but in true Parker style, he’s taken in with a grain of salt.

Parker took to Instagram with a screenshot of the email from Culley which reads, “our musicologist says it is indeed our sample if we don’t hear from you in three days we will file the necessary papers against you and the record company.”

“WOW unexpected compliment! The creator of the famous Skull Snaps drum sample thinks my drums IS his actual sample and wants to sue me for not clearing it,” Parker said in return.

“Sam Culley you have 3 days to fire your musicologist.”

There is something fishy about the email though given that Culley seems to avoid all forms of punctuation throughout the one sentence email.

Suitably, Parker asked Tame Impala’s followers, “Anyone think this could be a hoax though?”

It’s not the first time the Perth band have been embroiled in legal controversy this year. They also were unexpectedly thrown into the spotlight over missing royalty payments from their record company Modular.

Check-out both tunes below and decide for yourself whether it’s a hoax or not.
