Tame Impala Officially Announce New Album For 2015

We’ve heard word of a new Tame Impala album in the works for some time, but now it’s official — the Perth psych rockers will deliver their next record this year.

The good news comes via an email from Spinning Top Music, the “management, home & sometimes label” of Tame Impala and offshoots Pond, The Growl and Mink Mussel Creek. See a screenshot of the email, via Reddit, below.

In case you were feeling anxious that Tame Impala wouldn’t be promoting their 2015 album, the email also notes that this year we’ll see “tours and shows aplenty from everyone across the Spinning Top roster”. Tame Impala haven’t played headline Australian shows since May 2013.

Back in 2013, frontman Kevin Parker warned us a new Tame Impala record wasn’t high on his list of priorities, saying at the time “right now, doing another album doesn’t excite me”. Since then, he’s teased us by saying that the new album will make second LP Lonerismlook like amateur hour” by comparison, while drummer Jay Watson recently told FasterLouder that the new material is sounding “less rock and more electronic“.

Recently, Parker provided vocals for three tracks and instrumentation on several other songs on producer Mark Ronson’s new record, Uptown Special, which is due for release next week.
