The Flaming Lips, MGMT Frontman And Miley Cyrus To Record Beatles Cover

After joining Miley Cyrus onstage during her Bangerz tour, the Flaming Lips have announced they are teaming up with the pop singer again, along with MGMT‘s Andrew VanWyngarden, to record a Beatles cover.

Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne spread the news via Instagram on Friday, posting a photo of Cyrus rolling a joint (with Bangerz rolling paper) in a recording studio. “Yup…… Recordin with Miley… High as fuck….” he wrote in the caption.

Giving away more clues as to the details of the collab, on Sunday, Coyne posted another photo of Cyrus, this one embellished with some sparkles, showing off his Photoshop prowess. “Miley in the studio vomiting diamonds while singing Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds!!” he wrote. “If you’re a Beatles and John Lennon freak you gonna love love love this track!! Got Andrew from MGMT too!!!!”

Wayne Coyne and Flaming Lips bandmate, Steven Drozd, joined Miley Cyrus onstage during her show at Los Angeles’ Staples Centre last month to perform the Flaming Lips’ 2002 song Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Part 1, twice.

“I hope I can inspire you guys as much as the Flaming Lips have inspired me and encouraged me to always be myself and to make music because I love it and always invent something new for my fans,” Miley told the audience. After the first round of the song, Coyne said, “I fucked some of that up.” So they sang it again.
