After announcing their first two headliners – The Stone Roses and Bon Jovi – last week, the UK’s Isle of Wight Festival have added a bunch of new acts for its 2013 edition.
The biggest of these is Blondie, who have been announced as the headliner of the Big Top stage on Sunday. This means anyone who wants to swoon along to The Tide Is High will have to skip Bon Jovi, who are closing out the main stage on Sunday night.
Seminal UK alt rock band Happy Mondays have been announced as Big Top headliners on the opening night (Thursday) – to be joined by The Farm.
Bloc Party, Bonnie Raitt and The Maccabees are the first acts announced to be playing on the Saturday, with the headliner for Saturday night still to be announced. Other acts also heading over to the Isle are Irish sensations The Script, Jake Bugg, Paloma Faith, Ellie Goulding, Republica, Imperial Teen, and Fun.
Festival promoter John Giddings said he was pleased with the mix of acts featured in the announcement.
“We are proud to present some of the best new music around, together with artists who helped scope the face of modern music – it’s a stunning combination so far,” he said.
For those of you unaware of the UK Festival calendar – Isle of Wight is on the same weekend as the Download Festival at Donnington Park this year. While the acts announced for Download so far look pale in comparison to lineups over the previous years, this latest announcement from IOW isn’t too compelling either. It will be interesting to see who else is added to each festival’s bill in the coming months – they may just sway punters one way or the other.
Isle of Wight 2013 is on at Seaclose Park in Newport, Isle of Wight from June 13-16 next year. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster UK – for all the details, hit the festival’s website.
