Established in 2005 by John Butler and wife Danielle Caruana, nonprofit organisation The Seed Fund aims to help bona-fide practicing artists, managers, publicists and arts practitioners through grants ranging from $2000 – $5000 . The Seed Fund also runs a highly respected management workshop with the intention of connecting up-and-coming talent with established talent.
The results speak for themselves: as listed on the official Seed Fund website, Boy & Bear were granted $5000 to work with Secret Service PR on their debut album release (in August 2011) and the release tour; Rowan Brand – Boy and Bear’s manager attended The Seed Management Workshop in 2008.
Furthermore, The Seed Fund, in partnership with The Falls Music and Arts Festival (Lorne, VIC),Southbound (WA), Reggaetown (Cairns, QLD) and Port Fairy Folk Festival (Port Fairy, VIC) will give a select few bands the opportunity to perform at these events.
Applications for 2012 have now opened and can be found on the Official Seed Fund website, along with plenty of information on the campaign.
Past recipients include Ash Grunwald, Emma Lousie and The Hungry Kids of Hungary.
