The Updated ‘Guitar Hero Live’ Playlist Is Like A Soundwave Best-Of

Written by Emmy Mack on May 20, 2015

The newest game in pop culture’s beloved Guitar Hero franchise seems to have been striving to please everyone with its eclectic playlist. And although the first round of soundtrack inclusions for Guitar Hero Live featured a sturdy slew of revered guitar-driven acts such as System Of A Down, The Rolling Stones, Pantera and Rage Against The Machine, there were also a few quirky additions that left the metal community scratching their magnificently-maned heads.

Skrillex, Alt-J and The Lumineers were perhaps the most offensive acts to make the list. But today, the latest round of tunes announced for Guitar Hero Live should have those heads back banging again.

The ten new songs added to the soundtrack tip the scale firmly in favour of acts who actually make full use of electric guitars in their music, and reads like something of a ‘Best Of Soundwave’ compilation.

As well as festival alumni System, Judas Priest, Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Alter Bridge, My Chemical Romance, Pierce The Veil, Black Veil Brides and The Pretty Reckless, who all featured in the first announcement, there will also be tunes by Marilyn Manson, Killswitch Engage, Of Mice & Men, Mastodon, Trivium, Bring Me The Horizon, Deftones (who headlined the inaugural Sydney & Brisbane Soundwave festivals in 2007) and Vista Chino, who performed at the 2013 event under their old name, Kyuss Lives!

Although not yet inaugurated into the Soundwave club, the updated Guitar Hero Live soundtrack also features two of the most kickass rock acts to make the lineup for this year’s Splendour In The Grass festival, Royal Blood and Marmozets.

As well as sporting a killer new soundtrack, Guitar Hero Live will also boast a bunch of new upgrades. It will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U and mobile devices for the first time when it’s officially released, later this year.
