Thom Yorke Asks “Who The Fuck Is Bruno Mars?”

They say ignorance is bliss, and in the instance of Thom Yorke being unable to identify Bruno Mars, that maxim have never been more fitting. During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Yorke and with bandmate Nigel Godrich talked all things Atoms For Peace.

Discussing the rise of Atoms For Peace, Godrich brought up the fact that Bruno Mars had beaten out the band for Number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts earlier in the year. Godrich remarked that Mars’ record was on sale at the time via Amazon.

Godrich jokingly insinuated that Amazon always undercuts the band, despite have only released one album, and that was the reason for Bruno surpassing Atoms For Peace. Yorke agreed before admitting he wasn’t actually aware of who Bruno Mars was:

“Yeah, Bruno Mars. Who the fuck is Bruno Mars? Sorry. I’ll get slandered now.”

During the interview Yorke also gave his opinion on the DJ culture. Yorke, who is more frequently becoming a fixture behind the dials and nobs, admitted that despite his enjoyment of DJing he is ill at ease with the surrounding culture:

“I mean, it depends on how you look at it. If I’m brutally honest, 90 percent of that whole culture, I don’t get on with. I don’t understand it at all, and I find it really bonkers when, you know, like, a promoter in Ibiza is emailing us, saying, ‘Do you want to go?’ And I’m like, ‘No!’

“At the same time, some of the most exciting things that have happened to me recently have been, like, when FlyLo dragged me to Low End Theory for the first time, kicking and screaming, ’cause I didn’t want to do it, ’cause I was jetlagged or whatever, and it was just mental. Fucking mental.”
