Tiësto Concussed After Onstage Collision, Forced To Cancel Shows

Dutch DJ and producer Tiësto was rushed to hospital Friday night, 21st March, after accidentally hitting his head on a large flat-screen television as he made his way to the stage to perform. The DJ said he was diagnosed with a concussion and was forced to cancel performances two nights in a row.

The Guardian report the crowd at San Diego’s SAP Center were pumping themselves up before Tiësto’s headlining set at Electric Bounce House, but the DJ decks remained cloaked in darkness. Andre Saint-Albin, a fellow DJ and producer who was at the show, tweeted, “Tiësto was walking up to the booth & hit his head on an LED screen. He was bleeding & wanted to play, but mgmt said no!”

According to Tiësto, he was also ordered not to perform the following night at the Hollywood Palladium, where he was replaced by friend and fellow DJ Zedd. “I had an accident and got a concussion at last night’s show,” he tweeted. “Dr’s told me to rest so no show tonight.”

After recovering, the DJ posted a message and video on Facebook. “Right before the show the other night back stage, I was having a good time and ready to play. Feeling better now. Thanks for all the lovely messages and support.” The Dutch DJ saw the funny side as well, later tweeting, “I took that American expression ‘go knock yourself out’ too literally Friday night.” You can watch fan-shot footage of the incident below.

It seems like collisions between stage equipment and big-name DJs are becoming more and more common. Dubstep icon Skrillex decked himself in Mexico last year, running straight into a protective wall as he attempted to exit the stage.

Tiësto is currently finishing his next full-length release, telling the Miami New Times, “It is all written and the instrumental tracks are finished… I am just being patient, trying to find the people who can sing the vocal parts the way I want.” His latest release is the late 2013 single Red Lights.
