Tom Ugly Launches EP in Sydney

Sydney whiz kid Tom Ugly, who won triple j’s inaugural “Unearthed High” competition last year (then known as [is]), will launch his debut self-titled EP at Spectrum next Saturday 19 September with the help of his three Ugly band mates, and local support from Lions At Your Door and Kids At Risk.

Tom Ugly has just been shortlisted for Qantas’ 2009 Spirit Of Youth Award (SOYA) in the Music Category alongside nine other up and coming young acts from around the country.

Debuting at #23 on the ARIA Physical Single Charts, #3 on the AIR 100% Single Charts and #13 on the AIR Indie Charts, the Tom Ugly EP features polished gems ‘Cult Romance,’ ‘Roll Again’ and ‘Bad With Love’ as well as new poptastic tracks ‘All I Wanna Know’ and ‘Fantasy.’

The majority of the Tom Ugly EP was recorded and produced by Tom in his basement studio affectionately known as “the Batcave”, however he did manage to venture into the light to co-produce tracks with Greg Wales at Vault Studios that were eventually mastered by Steve Smart at Studio 301.

Despite valiant attempts to woo him into the major label world, Tom Ugly has decided to keep his independent flag flying and has teamed up with iconic Aussie surf label Billabong. Billabong will be supporting Tom Ugly

by way of artwork, posters, merchandise and a music video for his upcoming single. Over the past year Tom Ugly have been busy bees supporting the likes of Midnight Juggernauts, Grinspoon, The Grates, British India and Children Collide. The band warmed up with their first national tour in June/July this year, now Tom Ugly are red hot and ready to rock!
