Tool Enter The Studio With Maynard James Keenan

There’s now definitive proof that Tool have entered the recording studio with frontman Maynard James Keenan. The band’s guitarist, Adam Jones, has shared a picture of Maynard and the band in recording mode via his Instagram account, once again adding the caption, “#SmokeOnTheHorizon”.

In Jones’ photo, Maynard can be seen with his fingers in his ears, but sporting a cheeky smile. The picture isn’t only exciting because he looks almost overjoyed, but also because he appears to have been largely absent from recording sessions as of late.

Maynard has released one piece of new music this year, though, appearing on The Flaming Lips’ Sgt. Peppers tribute album With A Little Help From My Fwends, providing vocals on the song Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite.

Jones shared a less exciting recording photo on Instagram in early October, around the same time that the group’s webmaster issued an update stating that work on the next Tool album was “progressing rather nicely”.

Jones detailed one of the reasons for the delay of Tool’s fifth album in July, telling Rolling Stone that the band were caught up in a series of lawsuits significantly limited their output. It appears as if all that might be behind them now, though.

Tool’s most recent album, 10,000 Days, was released in 2006.
