Triple J Unearthed High Winner Gretta Ray Shares New Song ‘Unwind’

18-year-old Gretta Ray took out triple j’s Unearthed High competition last month with her song Drive, and now she’s unveiled a brand new tuned titled Unwind.

As part of her prize, Ray was given the opportunity to spend time in the triple j studios recording new music, and the result of that hard slog over the past week or so is an awesome new track that once again shows off Ray’s inimitable vocals, complex melodic production and rich harmonies.

The song features Dan Williams of Art Vs Science on drums, Rosie of I Know Leopard on bass and Cam from Paul Kelly’s band on keys.

“I wrote the lyrics with the intention of portraying the thought process when going through a break up,” Ray tells triple j of the new track.

“More specifically, the moment when you come to understand the extent of what you’ve lost, when you start to feel the weight of what the relationship became. I think the lyric that best conveys that is: ‘I am sure that there is more to this than I care to admit.’ Hopefully this rings true with you when you listen.”

Ray will join Emma Louise’s national tour this October as the support act for all shows in Victoria.
