Ukrainian Singer Sues Carly Rae Jepsen For Stealing ‘Call Me Maybe’

Ukrainian Singer, simply known as Aza, has filed a lawsuit against pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen for alleged heartless theft of her song.

Aza believes that her Christmas single Hunky Santa (which you can check out below, BUT I do warn you, it’s awful) was the foundation for the smash hit Call Me Maybe. According to the singer, Theftson (I’ll take the credit for that one) and her producers simply tweaked the original song here and there, before slapping her vocals over the top. According to Aza’s legal rep Barry Rothman, the singer is seeking unspecified damages, but as TMZ aptly pointed out, there is surely a tonne of cash on the line here.

Carly’s management Scooter Braun (also known as Bieber’s manager) is also in the firing line, as Aza explains to TMZ, “I’m shocked and surprised that these people wanted to sample my lyrics on their song. They didn’t ask me for permission, they just took it. That’s why I filed this lawsuit. When I first heard it on the radio, I was driving and almost got into an accident. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.”

Jepson’s reps have also weighed in on the conversation, making a very good point: “This is completely false and [Carly’s] lawyers will deal with this. Everyone knows [Carly] is a songwriter. She is not spending a lot of time listening to Ukrainian radio.”

I’m gonna put my money on Team Jepson to win this one. The songs share one thing in common: they are both real bad. However, I don’t think that’s sufficient grounds for a lawsuit, but hey, I’m just some dude.
