University Is Blacklisted From Future Jack White Shows Over Guacamole Scandal

The University of Oklahoma will not be hosting any more Jack White performances in the future, thanks to the actions of its student newspaper who made public White’s contract and tour rider, which included his guacamole recipe.

Reports Consequence of Sound, before White’s performance at the University this Monday, The Oklahoma Daily printed White’s contract which revealed the blues musician was to receive $80,000 in compensation for the show.

That contract also included White’s tour rider, which, like all riders, made a number of entertaining requests such as one dozen chicken wings, hummus and pita chips, a stipulation that “this is a NO BANANA TOUR” as well as a lengthy and very specific guacamole recipe.

CoS reports that Jack White publicly called out the University newspaper during his subsequent performance, telling the audience, “Just because you can type it on your computer doesn’t make it right.”

According to The Oklahoma Daily, White’s booking agency William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, has now blacklisted the University for future performances from any of the talent on their roster because of their Jack White article.

Jack White is not believed to be involved in the decision. The company has represented artists such as 2 Chainz, Alicia Keys, All Time Low, Selena Gomez, Pharrell Williams and Kid Cudi. The ban will remain in effect “until this policy is modified not to disseminate private information.”

Jack White’s management has since issued a statement disputing the newspaper’s claim that White will not play at the University again and urging fans to try out the “delicious” guacamole recipe for themselves.

“The incidents with the OU Daily student newspaper reporting the financial terms of the show, the private tour rider information, along with unsolicited photographers from their staff were unfortunate, unprofessional, and very unwelcoming,” reads the statement.

“Contrary to what some believe, Jack doesn’t write the rider nor make demands about his favorite snacks that must be in his dressing room. We’re not even sure he likes guacamole but we do know that the folks who work hard to put on the show do enjoy it,” they add. “Now that’s it out there, we recommend you try Lalo’s guacamole recipe. It’s delicious.”

These events occurred earlier in the week, prior to the momentous event that signalled Jack White’s career had officially taken off. Read the rider and guacamole recipe here.
