Vampire Weekend’s highly anticipated third album is almost complete. Sitting down to talk with Music Feeds backstage at Big Day Out 2013, band members Rostam Batmanglij and Chris Baio said the new record will hopefully be out in the first half of 2013.
When asked how close to completion the forthcoming LP was, Batamanglij said it was almost finished. “We do have a title, we can’t announce it yet but we’re very, very close to done,” revealed Batmanglij. And as for a release date, “Very soon, within the next four months,” added Baio.
Having produced Vampire Weekend’s 2008 self-titled debut and 2010’s Contra, as well as co-producing the soon-to-be released third album, Batmanglij maintains that he is still able to lend an objective ear despite being in the band…most of the time.
“Usually it’s pretty possible to stay objective, I’ve found. But there can be other things that come up,” explained Batmanglij.
