The Veronicas Say They Were “Snubbed” By The ARIAs, But Some Disagree

A small war of words has broken out between a member of Aussie pop duo The Veronicas and metalcore band Northlane, after The Veronicas’ Jessica Origliasso claimed her and her twin sister Lisa had been “snubbed” in this year’s ARIA Award nominations.

Taking to Twitter earlier today, Origliasso was happy to see everyone. Well, everyone except the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA)…

She went on to explain her disappointment, after The Veronicas’ music video for ‘On Your Side’ wasn’t nominated for the Best Video award in this year’s list of ARIA Award nominees:

Origliasso later called the ‘On Your Side’ video “the most watched LGBT video of the year”, and accused ARIA of “snobbing” (we think she means ‘snubbing’) the clip because of “egos and politics”.

Eventually, Northlane bassist Alex Milovic jumped in to suggest that the ‘On Your Side’ video maybe “just isn’t that good”, which was followed by a swift reply from Origliasso…

Milovic later responded, saying that while he understands the video is about an important issue, he doesn’t believe ARIA should be “condemned” just because The Veronicas’ clip wasn’t nominated:

The music video for ‘On Your Side’ was written and directed by Australian actress and model Ruby Rose, who also stars in the clip, which you can watch below.

A spokesperson for ARIA has told Music Feeds that it isn’t directly responsible for the Best Video nominees, and continues to support The Veronicas.

“The Best Video Award Nominees are not selected by ARIA but by the ARIA Voting Academy which is comprised of over 670 members of music industry of former ARIA winners and nominees, labels, managers, publishers, media, and retail,” they said.

“ARIA has been a supporter of The Veronicas’ success, inviting the duo to perform on the ARIAs stage on a many occasions, in addition to hosting our 30th Annual ARIA Awards celebrations.”

The spokesperson also said ARIA is still a strong supporter of marriage equality in Australia.

Nine different acts are nominated for this year’s ARIA Award for Best Video, including Amy Shark, Client Liaison, Gang Of Youths, Illy, Sia and Kirin J Callinan.

Northlane are also nominated for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album for their latest full-length effort, Mesmer.
