Vince Staples Has A New EP On The Way And James Blake Produced On It

Vince Staples is preparing for the release of a new EP and it features a lineup of impressive producers including James Blake.

In a feature on The Fader, it was revealed that Staples will release a six-track EP titled Prima Donna with a tentative release date of summer in the US, which means it’s due before the end of August.

While we don’t have a tracklist for the EP just yet, it was revealed that Blake has produced on the EP as has No I.D. and DJ Dahi who both worked on his debut LP Summertime ’06 which dropped last year.

Blake and Staples have never worked together before although the British singer and producer has worked with rappers like Chance The Rapper, Kanye West and RZA.

Reportedly, Staples’ EP begins with the Cali rapper killing himself and ends with him first coming to fame. The Fader, who heard the EP in the presence of Staples wrote, “it’s a chaotic fusion of warped soul, distorted hooks, and extraterrestrial demonic spirituals.”

Staples is due back in the country in December supporting Flume on his national tour. He’ll also play Canberra’s new festival Spilt Milk. He was last in Australia in February for Laneway Festival plus a few headline dates.

Even though it’s almost been a year since Summertime ’06, Staples has kept busy. Alongside a heavy touring schedule, he’s featured on Flume’s Smoke & Retribution and Clams Casino’s recent drop All Nite.
