Watch Daniel Johns Rework Silverchair Classics At His Debut Solo Show

Silverchair aren’t a band — at least, not right now — but that hasn’t stopped the group’s frontman, Daniel Johns, from performing some Silverchair classics at his debut solo show in Sydney last night, as part of Vivid LIVE 2015.

Johns’ Sydney Opera House performance largely featured his recently-released debut solo album, Talk, but Johns surprised fans by performing Silverchair’s Straight Lines and After All These Years.

Playing with a seven-piece band, Johns opened his set with recent solo single, Aerial Love. The first Silverchair track to make an appearance was a stripped-back take on Straight Lines, which appeared on the 2007 album Young Modern.

Music Feeds reviewer David James Young said the reworking was “done more in a teasing way, with Johns almost performing the song ironically”. Catch footage of the performance, below.

Diorama track After All These Years later turned the encore into a concert hall singalong, with Johns’ vocals accompanied only by vocodered harmonies.

Johns also performed The Dissociatives’ track Young Man, Old Man (You Ain’t Better Than The Rest), and ended his set with a cover of Judy Garland’s (Somewhere) Over The Rainbow. Catch footage of those songs and the Silverchair tracks, below.

Johns performs his second sold-out show at the Sydney Opera House tonight, but you can catch Music Feeds’ review and photo gallery from last night’s show, right here.
