As the dust begins to settle after yesterday’s Hottest 100 of 2016, the news that triple j Unearthed discovery Flume took out the top spot will finally have sunk in for most people.
Triple j have shared a short clip of the exact moment that the Sydney lad realised he had become the first producer to ever take top spot in the annual countdown for his track ‘Never Be Like You’ featuring Kai.
If he’d been following the trends from previous years, he must have had an inkling that something special was going to happen when he was invited into the triple j studios for the final few songs of the countdown.
Standing in the studio alongside regular arvo presenters Veronica & Lewis, Flume puts his head in his hands and sinks down in disbelief as Amy Shark’s #2 song ‘Adore’ begins to play. As the news sinks in, we see plenty of that infectious smile as he realises he’s secured the number one song in the countdown.
Veronica then asks him whether he thought back when he was writing ‘Never Be Like You’ that it would’ve gone on to win the Hottest 100, to which Flume responds with trademark modesty “oh my God no, definitely not.”
