Watch Gang Of Youths Perform With Strings On ‘MTV Unplugged Melbourne’

Our first detailed look at Gang Of Youths performing as part of MTV Unplugged‘s Australian debut has arrived, before the full show is broadcast this weekend.

MTV Australia has shared video (below) of frontman Dave Le’aupepe performing the group’s Go Farther In Lightness track ‘Let Me Down Easy’ with a string quartet, after the band performed for the iconic concert series last month.

The performance was filmed on 25th July at the Cobblestone Pavilion in Melbourne’s Meat Market, as 1,200 red roses sat suspended above the band.

After the full show is broadcast on MTV at 6pm this Sunday, 19th August, the concert will receive a full audio and visual release, available for downloading and streaming.

Speaking with Music Feeds contributor Sally McMullen ahead of the band’s ‘MTV Unplugged’ show, Gang Of Youths bassist Max Dunn said the performance was a “pretty important moment” for the group.

“It’s a cool chance to do something a little different and stretch ourselves and give the fans a little more experience of the songs,” he said.

“That’s kind of the main thing. In terms of ‘MTV Unplugged’, it’s an important thing from back in the day and it’s cool that it’s happening and we get to be a part of it.”

‘MTV Unplugged’ debuted in 1989, and has hosted iconic performances from the likes of Nirvana, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Adele, Oasis, The Cure and Florence + The Machine.

The second edition of ‘MTV Unplugged Melbourne’ will feature a performance from singer-songwriter Amy Shark.

Gang Of Youths are scheduled to embark on a 20-date national tour this November. Catch all the tour dates right here.
