Watch Jimmy Fallon & Kevin Bacon Turn A Tom Petty Classic Into A Song About Horses

Jimmy Fallon (and his writers) seem to be churning out more pop culture jokes than normal at the moment, and the talk-show host’s latest gag has seen him team up with Kevin Bacon for a comedy song based on Tom Petty‘s 1989 Grammy-winning seminal American classic Free Fallin’.

Just hours after Fallon gave a brutal impersonation of the USA Olympic swimming team’s serial douchebag Ryan Lochte at the MTV VMAs, he was joined by Kevin Bacon for a sketch on his own talk-show.

Bacon, dressed as Petty – sung some revamped lyrics to the one of the US rock n’ roll veteran’s most well known songs Free Fallin’, renamed Free Horses for the purposes of The Tonight Show. The segment is called ‘First Drafts of Rock’ and Fallon – dressed as Petty’s long-time guitarist Mike Campbell; played a dual-necked guitar as they performed the “original draft” of Petty’s timeless hit.

Watch, as Fallon’s Campbell and the band try their darnedest to get the song to progress into that iconic chorus while Bacon just ignores them and won’t stop singing verse after verse about horses.
