Muse are tickling our pumpkins with some kind of bizarre new “Halloween Special”.
The earth-conquering trio are clearly at a point in their careers where they give a grand total of zero f*cks, from contemplating magnetic levitation on their next tour to dressing up like gimp Elvises and grabbing their crotches as they shriek the word “Dick!” in our general direction for a new video.
The latter scenario is precisely how Matt Bellamy and company have opted to tease their mysterious new “Halloween Special”, which fans have close to butkiss idea about.
After the band posted a first cryptic teaser, some predicted that it could be a one-off Halloween-themed gig, while others suggested that the band might be preparing to drop new music.
“Chances are #MuseHalloweenSpecial is the three of them dressing as pumpkins together saying happy halloween and tbh i would love that,” another tweeted.
Well, maybe black leather pumpkins?
The band’s totally whacked-out new teaser clip also includes a sneaky cameo from cult horror star Cassandra Peterson (AKA Elvira, Mistress of the Dark) and Bellamy has since shared two more images from the project — one that clearly shows Elvira, and another that shows the leather-clad band superimposed with the face of a screaming woman.
Our money’s on either a new Halloween-themed single/music video or else a fully-fledged short film/stand-alone webisode, something akin to the classic holiday-themed TV special that South Park amazingly spoofed years back with their Korn’s Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery episode.
Elvira herself hosted a “Halloween Special” variety show back in 1986, 10 years after Paul Lynde’s famous Halloween Special starring KISS, so that could be a clue.
Whatever the nature of Muse’s imminent Halloween Special, we’re sure it’s going to be more treat than trick.
