Watch: My Morning Jacket New Video ‘Outta My System’ + Remix

Written by Marc Zanotti on August 8, 2012

Within two days American five-piece My Morning Jacket have released a new video and a new remix for their latest single Outta My System. Lifted from last year’s Circuital, the 6th studio record from the band, Outta My System’s video is a tripped-out animated adventure.

As noted by Rolling Stone, the clip sees My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James come face to face with Zach Galifianakis in the form of a powerful wizard. The band joins James, all in Cyclops form, and help him navigate through the cosmic land where cars fly, pyramids have eyes and wizards wield bombs.

As for the remix, Listen Before You Buy, have highlighted the mighty reworking of the track by American electronic musician Ernest Greene, who goes by the stage name of Washed Out. Rather then just messing with tempo and instrumentation, Washed Out has entirely re-imagined the single while still keeping true to its original intent.

Looping the opening lyric ‘They told me not to smoke drugs/but I wouldn’t listen/never thought I’d get caught/and wind up in prison”, Washed Out has placed a captivating narrative over the top of the tweaked track and has effectively made Outta My System even more psychedelic than before.
