This morning Music Feeds reported on Nicki Minaj’s performance being cancelled after Hot 97′s radio personality Peter Rosenberg insinuated that Minaj’s brand of music was not ‘real’ hip hop. Once word of Roenberg’s comments got out, Young Money’s founder Lil Wayne pulled Minaj from the festival and announced via Twitter that no artist on his label would be performing.
The cancellation left an open slot, which was filled by hip hop artist Nas who, according to Billboard, was only meant to perform one song on the day. Instead Nas played an extended set, which included a surprise appearance from the iconic Lauryn Hill.
Apparently Hill walked onstage as Fugees’ track Ready or Not played. Soon after the two hip hop icons performed their collaborative song If I Ruled the World from Nas’s 1996 record It Was Written.
